Small royal 4to., pp engraved title with vignette of Lambeth Palace from Westminster Bridge (foxed), [ii] title leaf, [iv] dedication and advertisement, 87, blank. With 14 plain plates (variably foxed). With a fine hand coloured portrait of Archbishop Chicheley and another fine coloured plate of the stained glass in the library and stewards parlour, both fresh and unfoxed. Loosely inserted is a small engraving (trimmed) of the palace as it was in 1829. Finely bound in full tan calf panelled with dark brown borders, decorated borders and fleurons in blind, gilt fillets and corner ornament. Corners a little rubbed with slight loss of the gilding, letter-piece lacking, marbled edges, green endpapers. A tight wide margined copy. Other copies call for five colour portraits but there is no evidence that these were ever in this copy. Other copies we have checked do not have the plate of stained glass in colour. Front paste-down carries a presentation inscription: To The Revd John F. C. Fawcett from his Affectionate Father J. Fawcett and with a number of erudite notes in the margins of some pages in Fawcett's neat hand. Armorial bookplate of Edmund Ferrers on front paste-down - Nulla Retrorsum. See ABBEY 209.
